Escape

Ally crept down the steep stairs of the orphanage. It was dark outside, and the candles high up on the walls were casting eerie shadowson the ground below her. She was leaving this place, once and for all. I won't be coming back anytime, she thought, making sure she didn't think anytime soon. She didn't want to be back here at all. She was on the landing now, going down the wide hallway. There were pictures of fat old men with white wigs on their heads on the walls, and the shadows made them seem like demons. Ally shivered. All she was wearing was a cotton chemise and a thin red over gown. She carried a small leather suitcase containing her few possessions; a small hairbrush with sea shell studs and matching mirror (girfts from her mother), an extra set of stockings, and a family photo album. As she was sneaking down another flight of stairs, a shadow moved from behind one of the statutes of armor, and grabbed her. A hand slipped over her mouth, holding in the scream that had formed in her throat. "Shhh, it's just me," said the shadow.
Ally turned and saw a boy of about six feet, with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. She fell into his arms immediatly. "I thought you weren't coming, William," she said quietly, her voice muffled by his chest.
